Looking for a place for date night in Seoul? Look no further…

So my girlfriend and I try to head out for date night every now and then. Some places turn out to be pretty good and others turn out to be duds… Let’s try to save you some money and give you a few ideas on where you can take your other half for date night. Get your pen and paper or save this link so you know where to hit up the next time you’re out and about for date night.

The Beastro – American Dining

The Beastro is located amongst the busy streets of Hongdae, a place surrounded by bars, students, and a whole lot of noise. Fortunately, The Beastro can take you away from all that and serve up some awesome food and delicious cocktails. The place is huge, three floors. It includes a rooftop area, which is beautiful in the summer during those warm summer evenings. Bringing you that taste of home, The Beastro does its best to provide you with the comfort foods of home, while providing an awesome atmosphere to set the evening right for you and your other half. Here’s the rooftop if you don’t believe me.

So yeah, this place will definitely help you set the mood for the rest of your date that’s for sure.

I actually visited The Beastro on my second anniversary with my girlfriend, so trust me when I say try to get the rooftop when making a reservation. We ordered the hanger steak and the fried chicken with mash. Let’s start with the 24 hour cooked hanger steak. It was super tender and cut like a hot knife through butter. The steak had a buttery texture and had a warm feel to it when going down, the beef, dripping potatoes and gravy, were a delicious compliment to the steak.

The fried chicken, oh man the FRIED CHICKEN! Yes it was worth the caps, the skin was perfectly crispy and seasoned well, I could have just broken off the skin, eaten that, and been satisfied but no. The chicken as a whole was good, moist and juicy, and the mash light and fluffy. Overall the meal was finger-licking good, literally.

So if you’re looking for an affordable spot for dinner with the other half be sure to check out The Beastro in Hongdae.

Tasting Room “Miki Creole” – Cajun Food

Located on the more fashionable side of Itaewon (towards Hangangjin) is where you can find this place. A friend of mine recommended it so my friend, girlfriend, and I set off on a little food adventure to check it out. There are multiple tasting rooms around Seoul but the one in Hangangjin specializes in Cajun food so their menu is a little different from the others. The atmosphere is warm and the decor is modern. There’s art work scattered around between the two floors. Since we went after eating we decided to try a few of the dessert items on the list.

We ordered the salted caramel popcorn ice cream, which was amazing. Maybe I’m just a sucker for things that are salty and sweet, but this was delicious. The caramel popcorn and big chunks of sea salt definitely did it for me. The ice cream mountain in the center was melting by the second but that just made it even yummier; it’s possibly something you could share with your date.

We also ordered the grilled melon with prosciutto doused in maple syrup and the beignet basket. The melon and prosciutto was definitely the wow factor dish of the night, simple because they bring it out while it’s still grilling and pour the maple syrup over the melon. The melon was fresh and the proscuitto pairing made it a fruity and salty little mix up of a dish. The beignets were okay, nothing special. I’d probably try something else next time round. Overall a nice little spot, be sure to check it out.

Flower Gin Bar

You’re full and you’ve already eaten dinner around Itaewon, here’s a place you can visit to enjoy each other’s company, relax, and just have a few drinks with your date. This place is a flower shop by day and a small bar by night. They only serve four to five types of drinks, all made with Hendrick’s Gin, but trust me if you’re not a gin drinker you will be by the end of your visit here.

The bar itself is quite small, it holds maybe around ten to twelve people depending on the weather, but if you can manage to snag a chair here definitely head in and order a few rounds of gin and tonic. They do four cocktails, a straight up gin and tonic served with a slice of cucumber and a real rose bud, a gin and tonic served with lemon ginger ale and a rose bud, one called “the kick” served with hypnotic cherry and tonic water, and finally a gin and tonic served with X-rated (fruit based liquor)  and San Pellegrino.

I’ve tried all four and I think the winner is the straight up gin and tonic, the flavors of the Hendrick’s gin are just so smooth and go down easy.

They also sell Hendrick’s by the bottle if you want to get a bottle to take home and whip up a few of these in the comforts of your own home. Otherwise you could also come back for a visit whenever you’re in Itaewon. Be sure to check this spot out. It’s small and can easily be missed, but once you discover where it is you’ll definitely be heading back to visit.
