Key Stations

Sinchon Station

Sinchon (신촌) in Seodaemun-gu is Seoul's most densely university-concentrated district, with four major universities within walking distance: Yonsei University (연세대, one of Korea's top 3), Ewha Womans University (이화여대, the world's largest women's university), Sogang University (서강대), and Hongik University (홍대) just across the Gyeongeui-Jungang Line. The resulting population of 80,000+ university students creates an unmatched density of restaurants, bars, entertainment venues, and youth culture.

For English teachers, Sinchon is a dual posting: many are placed at university-affiliated language institutes (Yonsei Language Institute and others), while the hagwon market around the station serves the large student population. The neighbourhood is affordable relative to central Seoul, young, vibrant, and never boring — the social life is built in. The downside: it can be noisy and the pace of life makes saving money difficult. But for teachers in their 20s or early 30s who want to be in the middle of Seoul's youth culture, Sinchon is unbeatable.

Cost of Living

1-bedroom: 500,000–950,000 KRW/month — reasonable for central Seoul. Student housing market keeps prices competitive. Meals: 6,000–12,000 KRW (student pricing). Hagwon salaries 2.3–3.0M KRW/month.

Housing

Good officetel and one-room availability near Sinchon Station. Student housing competition can make finding the right unit competitive in March (semester start). Many teachers live here and commute to Gangnam or other areas.
