Yongin (용인시) is one of Gyeonggi Province's largest cities with over 1 million residents, yet it remains underrepresented in the expat conversation compared to Bundang or Suwon. That's an opportunity: Yongin offers competitive hagwon salaries, lower rents than comparable Seoul-adjacent cities, and the Sinbundang Line (신분당선) running through Giheung and Suji directly to Pangyo and Gangnam (35–45 min).
The city divides roughly into three zones relevant to English teachers. Suji-gu (수지구) in the northwest is the most Seoul-adjacent and polished — young families, many returning Korean-Americans (gyopos), strong English environment. Giheung-gu (기흥구) is the administrative centre with Yongin's best transit connections. Cheoin-gu (처인구) is more rural and traditional, home to Everland, the Korean Folk Village (한국민속촌), and Samsung SDI's main plant. Yongin is especially popular with teachers at large chain hagwons — CDI, JEI, and Avalon all have multiple Yongin branches.
Cost of Living
1-bedroom: 450,000–850,000 KRW/month. Meals: 7,000–12,000 KRW. Hagwon salaries 2.3–3.0M KRW/month, housing typically provided.
Housing
Suji-gu has newer apartment stock (2010s builds); Giheung has a mix; Cheoin-gu is older and very affordable. Most teachers in Suji or Giheung.
