Teach English in Hwaseong / Dongtan

Dongtan is Korea's newest large-scale new town, built in two phases (Dongtan 1 and 2) in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province. It's notable for hosting Korea's first underground high-speed railway station — the SRT Dongtan Station — which connects riders to Seoul's Gangnam area (Suseo Station) in just 16 minutes. That commute time is genuinely faster than many Seoul districts, making Dongtan surprisingly practical for teachers who want space, modern amenities, and lower rents without sacrificing Seoul access.

For English teachers, Dongtan's strongest asset is its community. The BADASS group (Byeongjeon and Dongtan Area Social Society) and Dongtan Clan Facebook groups are among Korea's most active expat networks outside Seoul. The area skews young — lots of 20s-30s teachers and young families — and social events, hiking groups, and weekend meetups happen regularly. Banseok-ro, the main commercial corridor, has a 50+ restaurant strip including Vietnamese, Korean BBQ, Japanese tempura, and more.

Hwaseong city as a whole is growing rapidly. Cost of living is medium — lower than Seoul or Bundang, similar to outer Seoul — and the modern infrastructure (wide roads, new apartment complexes, well-stocked Homeplus) makes settling in straightforward.
