Key Stations

Pyeongchon Station

Anyang (안양시) sits directly south of Seoul's Gwanak-gu, making it one of the most genuinely Seoul-adjacent cities in all of Gyeonggi. The commute to Gangnam via Seoul Metro Line 1 (express to Seoul Station: 30 min) or Line 4 (Anyang → Sadang in 20 min) is among the fastest of any Gyeonggi city. Despite this proximity, Anyang remains significantly cheaper than comparable areas like Gwacheon or Dongjak.

The city is compact, safe, and practical — the kind of posting where teachers can live comfortably without drama. Anyang Art Park (안양예술공원), tucked into the Samseong Mountain valley, is a genuinely world-class public art installation park with sculptures by internationally recognised artists set against forested hillside trails. Pyeongchon (평촌) — Anyang's own 1990s new town — has aged well and provides the most expat-friendly residential zone.

Cost of Living

1-bedroom: 450,000–850,000 KRW/month. Good value for the Seoul proximity. Meals: 7,000–12,000 KRW. Hagwon salaries 2.3–2.8M KRW/month.

Housing

Pyeongchon new town has solid 1990s–2000s apartment stock. Managyang-gu (만안구) has older, cheaper options. Officetel availability near subway stations is reasonable.
