Key Stations

Incheon Station

Most people's first memory of Korea is Incheon International Airport — consistently ranked among the world's best and the arrival point for almost all international visitors. But Incheon itself, Korea's third-largest city, is far more than a transit hub. It has a distinct history as Korea's first open port city (1883), a surviving Chinatown, fascinating colonial-era architecture, and some of Korea's most accessible island day trips.

The city is divided into distinct characters: Songdo IBD in the south is the ultra-modern smart city development (see separate guide); central Incheon (Jung-gu, Nam-gu) has the historic port area, Chinatown, and Jayu Park; Namdong-gu and Bupyeong are the inland residential and commercial hubs. For English teachers, postings are spread across these areas, with Namdong-gu and Songdo having the most hagwon density.

Incheon is practical: Seoul is 30–50 minutes away by metro, cost of living is lower than the capital, and the city is well-served by Line 1 connecting to Seoul's system. The airport's presence means genuinely excellent international connectivity — many teachers use Incheon as a base to travel Southeast Asia cheaply.

Cost of Living

Studio rent: 400,000–700,000 KRW/month depending on area. Lower than Seoul; Namdong-gu is among the most affordable.

Housing

Good availability of officetel and apartment complexes. Namdong-gu most common for expat teachers.
