Region

Key Stations

Jeongbalsan Station

Goyang (고양시) is Gyeonggi's second-largest city with over 1 million residents. Most expats know it by the name of its most famous district: Ilsan (일산), one of Korea's first-generation new towns built in the 1990s. Unlike newer planned cities that can feel sterile, Ilsan has had 30 years to mature — it has real community infrastructure, established expat networks, genuine neighbourhood character, and the city's centrepiece: Ilsan Lake Park (일산호수공원), one of the largest artificial lake parks in Asia.

For English teachers, Goyang is consistently strong. The city's proximity to north-west Seoul (Line 3 from Ilsandong, GTX-A from Daegok), large middle-class residential population, and established hagwon market make it a reliable placement. KINTEX — Korea's largest convention centre — adds an occasional buzz of international trade shows and events. The city's Deogyang-gu area (구 고양시) is older and more traditional; Ilsan-gu (dong/seo) is where most expat teachers live.

Cost of Living

1-bedroom: 450,000–900,000 KRW/month. Meals: 7,000–12,000 KRW. Generally 20–25% below central Seoul. Hagwon salaries 2.3–2.9M KRW/month.

Housing

Ilsan has a good stock of 1990s-2000s apartment blocks — slightly older builds than Bundang but well-maintained. Officetel availability is reasonable near Jeongbalsan and Madu stations.

eastern Ilsan, lake park, Lafesta

Ilsan-seo (일산서구)

western Ilsan, KINTEX, newer commercial

Deogyang-gu
