Gyeonggi

From Seoul

20–30 min via Seoul Metro Line 1 from Guro/Yeongdeungpo or Line 7 from Gangnam

Key Stations

Bucheon Station

Bucheon (부천시) occupies a unique position — literally sandwiched between Seoul (Guro-gu) to the east and Incheon to the west, making it one of the most transit-connected cities in the Seoul Capital Area. Seoul Metro Line 1, Line 7, and the Airport Railroad all pass through Bucheon, giving teachers access to Hongdae (20 min via Line 1), Incheon airport (30 min via AREX), and Gangnam (45 min via Lines 1 + 2).

The city has reinvented itself around culture after heavy industrialisation. The Bucheon International Comics Festival (부천국제만화축제, BICOF) is Korea's premier animation and manga event, reflecting the city's designation as a UNESCO Creative City of Media Arts. Bucheon is also home to one of Gyeonggi's most concentrated hagwon markets — the Jungang-ro commercial district and Bucheon Station area have dozens of academies within walking distance. Relatively affordable rents and excellent transit make it a practical, underappreciated posting.

Cost of Living

1-bedroom: 400,000–800,000 KRW/month. Affordable for the Seoul connectivity. Meals: 7,000–12,000 KRW. Hagwon salaries 2.3–2.9M KRW/month.

Housing

Mixed stock: older apartment complexes near Bucheon Station, newer builds in Jungang-ro and Songnae areas. Officetel availability is good near major stations.
