GEPIK Teacher Benefits & Allowances (2026)

GEPIK offers one of the most complete benefits packages among Korean ESL programs. In addition to the standard EPIK benefits, Gyeonggi Province provides rural school allowances (₩100,000/month), multiple-school allowances (₩100,000–150,000/month), and unique housing options including a ₩500,000/month housing allowance alternative.
Benefits Included
Housing
Furnished single-occupancy apartment provided free of charge. Alternatively, some positions offer a ₩500,000/month housing allowance if you arrange your own accommodation. Utilities are the teacher's responsibility.
Settlement Allowance
₩300,000 one-time payment upon arrival to cover initial setup costs — groceries, transportation cards, household items.
Entrance Allowance
₩1,300,000 – ₩1,800,000 paid at contract start (first contract only). Repayable if the contract ends within the first 6 months.
Completion Bonus
₩1,300,000 – ₩1,800,000 paid upon successful completion of the 12-month contract, in addition to severance pay.
Health Insurance
National Health Insurance with 50% employer contribution. Covers hospital visits, prescriptions, dental, and most medical procedures.
Severance Pay
Approximately one month's salary paid at contract completion. Required by Korean labor law.
Rural School Allowance
₩100,000/month for teachers placed in designated rural areas (eup/myeon level). This is on top of base salary.
Multiple-School Allowance
₩100,000/month for teachers assigned to 2 schools. ₩150,000/month for 3 schools. Compensates for additional travel.
Vacation
26 paid vacation days per year. Must be taken during school recess periods (summer and winter breaks). Korean national holidays (~16 days) are also off.
Renewal Bonus
₩700,000 – ₩2,000,000 for teachers who renew for a consecutive year. Renewing qualifies you for the Level 1++ tier (₩2,600,000/month).

Not Included
Airfare
Round-trip airfare is not included. Teachers arrange and pay for their own flights.
National Pension
Depends on bilateral agreement. US, Canada, and Australia contribute; UK and Ireland are exempt.
Orientation Pay
The mandatory EPIK orientation (~1 week) is unpaid. Accommodation and meals are provided.
