The list of the Korean Consulate's contact information

Originally published: Last updated: By Korvia Editorial Team

If you are coming to South Korea to teach English, you will normally apply for your E-2 (foreign language instructor) visa from your home country, at the Korean embassy, consulate, or visa application center that has jurisdiction over where you live. Your school or program (for example EPIK) first applies for your visa issuance in Korea; once that is approved, you complete the visa application at your consulate. Plan ahead: preparing the supporting documents (an apostilled degree and an apostilled national criminal background check) can take several weeks, so start early.

How to apply

  1. Find the Korean consulate that has jurisdiction over the area where you live (see the lists below). You usually must apply at the mission for your region.
  2. Contact that consulate to confirm the exact documents, fee, and appointment method for your E-2 application. Requirements vary by consulate and by nationality, so always double-check before you go.
  3. Complete the application form (the barcoded e-form printed from the official Korea Visa Portal, www.visa.go.kr) and apply in person or by mail. In some countries (for example the United Kingdom) applications are submitted through a Korea Visa Application Center (KVAC) rather than the embassy directly.

The lists below cover the Korean missions in the seven countries whose citizens are eligible to teach English on an E-2 visa. Contact details, office hours, visa fees, and application procedures change frequently and can vary by consulate and by nationality, so always confirm the current requirements, costs, and process directly with the specific Korean consulate or visa application center that handles your application before you apply or pay any fee.

United States

U.S. citizens pay a flat US$45 reciprocity fee for an E-2 visa, regardless of entry type.

Documents for the visa application

Once your visa issuance has been approved in Korea, you typically submit the following at your consulate. Document requirements vary by consulate and nationality, so treat this as a general guide and confirm your exact checklist with the consulate that has jurisdiction over your area.

EPIK applicants (with a Notice of Appointment from an Education Office)

  • Valid passport, plus one photocopy of the personal-data page
  • Completed visa application form: the barcoded e-form printed and signed from www.visa.go.kr
  • One passport photo (not required if you complete and print the e-form in color)
  • Original Notice of Appointment and a photocopy
  • Employment contract
  • The visa fee (see the table below)
  • A self-addressed prepaid envelope (only if you want your passport mailed back to you)

GEPIK, private school, and hagwon applicants (with a Confirmation of Visa Issuance Number)

  • Valid passport, plus one photocopy of the personal-data page
  • Completed visa application form: the barcoded e-form printed and signed from www.visa.go.kr (use the form for applicants with a visa issuance confirmation)
  • One passport photo (not required if you complete and print the e-form in color)
  • The visa fee (see the table below)
  • A self-addressed prepaid envelope (only if you want your passport mailed back to you)

Some consulates require additional documents: South African applicants are asked for a TB (chest X-ray) test result, and non-U.S. citizens applying in the United States need proof of residency. Always confirm exactly what your consulate requires before applying.

Visa fee table

The figures below are the approximate E-2 single-entry fee for a citizen of each country, verified against the official embassy fee schedules in June 2026. Korea sets E-2 fees centrally on a reciprocity basis; each mission converts the amount to local currency and re-quotes it about every six months, so the exact figure drifts over time. U.S. citizens pay a flat fee regardless of entry type. Always confirm the current fee with your consulate or at www.visa.go.kr before paying.

CountryE-2 visa fee (single entry, approximate)
United StatesUS$45 (flat reciprocity fee for U.S. citizens, any entry type)
CanadaCAD 81 (single entry, stay over 90 days; U.S. citizens pay CAD 60.75)
United KingdomCharged by KVAC London in USD/EUR; confirm the current amount at visaforkorea.eu
Ireland€54 / US$60 (single entry, stay over 90 days)
AustraliaA$180 (Australian passport; A$90 for other nationalities)
New ZealandBasic rate about US$50; confirm the exact amount with the embassy
South AfricaR1,080 / US$60 (single entry, stay over 90 days)

Processing time and tips

  • Processing typically takes about 3–7 business days from when the consulate receives your application, depending on the consulate (not including shipping time).
  • If you mail your application, use a trackable carrier and include a self-addressed prepaid return envelope for your passport. Postage prices vary, so check with your carrier.
  • Start early. The wider E-2 process (your school obtaining the visa issuance in Korea, plus apostilling your degree and criminal background check) commonly takes several weeks, so begin gathering documents well before your intended start date.

This page is provided as general guidance only. It is not legal or official immigration advice. Korean consulate and visa-center addresses, phone numbers, office hours, visa fees, and application procedures change frequently and can differ by location and nationality. Before you apply or pay any fee, you must confirm the current requirements, costs, and process directly with the specific Korean consulate or Korea Visa Application Center that handles your application, and with the official Korea Visa Portal (www.visa.go.kr).
