December 15th, 2009. Dear interested public, My name is Evan, I’m starting my third month here in Korea and I wanted to take a moment to write to you about the people at Korvia. When I decided to go to Korea I didn’t use a recruiter, I used 4 of them. I took the time to search for recruiters who could help me find work in a public school in the country as I was sure that having 4 of them looking for work for me would be a lot better than having only one. I don’t regret that decision, but not because I was able to utilize the combined services they offered. The benefit to searching for a number of different recruiters was that I happened to stumble upon Korvia Consulting. Out of the 4 recruiters that I used, Korvia was the only one that actually seemed like they cared about my ability to find work in Korea. I had received interviews with all 4 recruiters, and was given the same speech about how it was very busy right then and that I shouldn’t get my hopes up. The number of applicants far exceeded the number of available jobs. Following the interviews and my placement onto their available employee lists, things turned south. I failed to hear from two of the 4 recruiters again, and the other recruiter was less than helpful. He even tried to push me towards teaching in hogwans, organizations with ethical standards bellow that of Enron. Korvia, however, made me feel as if I was their only client. When I first contacted Korvia, I talked to a representative and tried to book an interview, but she was not available when I was and vice versa. At that point, I was handed over to the senior recruiter, Ann Park. Ann actually took the time to talk to me outside of her work schedule. She seemed happy to call me (I suspected from home) late at night and the following conversations we had came across the same way. She was always happy to talk to me and always had patients when, by mistake, I kept asking questions she had already answered. She also had a sense of humour, which is more than you can say for many agencies. Korvia was the last recruitment agency I found, but the first to find me work. After hearing from other agencies that it would take months before I could hope for a position, Ann found me two in a month. I had been trying to get a position in Suwon, since I had a friend already teaching there, and she actually managed to find me one in the same Suwon neighborhood as my friend. The kicker is that not only did I end up in her neighborhood, I was also placed in an apartment right down the hall from her. So, will Korvia be able to find you work? Definitely. While you may have luck with other recruiters, few will match the dedicated client service that Korvia offers. All said and done, if you go with Korvia you would be making a smart choice. From Korea, Evan.
