Your school will cover 50% of any medical charges including medication or any surgery. Korean National Insurance cost about 9% of your monthly salary and they will pay half of this insurance and another half is your responsibility (according to Korean Labor code)
This national Health Insurance is not covering Dental care (100% payment) but it will reduce your cost of medication or visiting doctors. Without Korean National Insurance, people must pay more than 200~300% of deducted payment. So every Korean has this national health insurance because of this deduction. In case of your flue or other simple victims, you can visit any doctors and receive diagnosis with reasonable bill.
Please check with Korean National Health Insurance website. It is English and you will find more useful information about this insurance.

You can also have private insurance but it won’t cover dental cares and medical deductions for your bills. You may receive similar benefits but major purpose of this national health insurance is deduction of medication and other medical services (serious disease won’t be covered by this nation health insurance). Private insurance is mostly for serious disease and injuries.
